Neck Lift

Neck Lift

A neck lift, also known as a platysmoplasty, is designed to lift and tighten loose skin around the jaw line and neck to create a more youthful contour. This procedure may involve removing excess fat and skin, tightening lax skin, and smoothing out muscle banding around the neck.

Why Undergo a Neck Lift?

The neck is one of the most noticeable areas that show the signs of aging. Any sagging, deep wrinkles, or excess fat around the jowls can add years to your appearance but a neck lift can reverse many of these effects of aging by lifting and tightening the skin.

Many patients seek out this procedure because they are self-conscious about a double chin, excess wrinkling of the skin along the neck, and sagging around the jawline. Neck lift surgery treats the lower parts of the face as a restorative procedure to create a more youthful look.

The Neck Lift Procedure

Neck lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia.  It can be combined with a facelift, brow lift, or eyelid surgery for a complete facial rejuvenation procedure. Dr. Kilaru will make an incision in the hairline around the sideburn area or only around the ear, depending on whether you are undergoing a traditional neck lift or a limited incision neck lift.

These incisions are fairly small but large enough for Dr. Kilaru to access underlying tissue. Dr. Kilaru may remove excess fat with liposuction, redistribute tissue, tighten the muscles, and re-drape the skin to create more attractive contours. Excess skin can be removed to achieve a tightened look. All incisions are closed with sutures and the treatment area is bandaged up to help with healing.

You will be given specific post-op instructions that might include, keeping your head elevated, avoiding physical activities, and getting plenty of rest.

What to Expect with a Neck Lift

Most patients see a noticeable improvement after the swelling and bruising has dissipated. Residual swelling may be present for a few weeks to months and incision lines will be fully mature around the six month mark. You’ll notice gradual improvements as the swelling subsides and can enjoy a more youthful appearance. Results are typically achieved after one procedure. Dr. Kilaru will walk you through the procedure well ahead of time and address any questions you have about surgery.
